CHAVIN ABSTRACT STIRRUP SPOUT VESSEL A Superb ceramic vessel with a burnished black s-shaped design contrasted against a rough punctate surface, representing the clashing of opposites which is the basis of the dualistic worldview of the Chavin. The repetition of the design on the handle was reserved for only the finest ceramics. North Coast Peru, "Classico" Period, circa 1200-1000 BC. Height - 9", diameter - 6"
